We are so sorry if it seems we have neglected you on this blog.  We recently updated our sharing platform from blogger to wordpress and have been pretty busy there.  However, for those of you that follow us here, we want to thank very much!  We love all of your years of support, interest and continued enthusiasm for what we have to offer from our small corner here in Roseville.  Be sure to visit our new site, www.theoliveandrose.com.  There, we have recently posted about our trip to Texas (with more shots coming soon), news about the changes to our show (bigger and indoors), and we will be adding a lot more updates and photos on a regular basis.

I did want to share some shots from our recent Mes Amis Spring 2014 show.  I recently found out that not one but two of my lenses broke on my camera so hubby bought me a new camera phone in March.  These are just a few shots my daughter took with the phone of the show.  On our Mes Amis/Noel Facebook,  you will find a ton more.

Bonne Annee 2014 - Big Changes Ahead....

 I am so excited about starting a New Year with 2014. A new year always brings about the thought of fresh changes, resolutions, and re-sets. I do not usually set resolutions - I think its because I do not like change unless its something I really have planned out - the thought of doing something like resolving to make a change means that I have worked on it for a while, planned for it, worked things through and was was ready for ...I'm a planner by nature - so change, I do not take lightly. That being said, I am excited that 2014 for our business means we will see a big change. 

 It means that come Fall 2014 - we will be moving our street show

(Mes Amis Vintage Antique Show) to the Placer County Fairgrounds!!

Just 1 mile from our current Downtown block the time has come for us to grow! We will have spent 11 seasons on Oak Street where we started over 6 years ago. Since then, so many old and new vendors have crossed our paths and we always maintained a commitment to quality goods and quality vendors...we are still committed to that. But, there are so many new vendors to share and we want them to shine for you in a larger venue.

Our Spring Mes Amis Vintage Antique Show 2014 on April 26th will be our last street show on the 400 Block of Oak Street.

Everyone has their favorites and I have yet decided on which is mine, in fact. However, I have decided that a good old-fashioned (dare I say Vintage) website should do the trick at communicating the best with you. I am revamping that as well and you may see changes in the coming weeks on www.theoliveandrose.com. (It may look like this blog but it may change)  

At the website, you will find updates and info on the show, vendor information, hotel information, pictures, things to do, etc. when you do make it to our shows or Downtown Roseville for some Vintage Shopping for those in between seasons at the store. I look forward to sharing more with you but I do look forward to hearing from you.

I had to pick up some items this morning that wouldn't fit in the truck on Saturday mornings jaunt. My daughter, Faith, joined me for our early morning drive accompanied my the sunrise. We just had to share some of our pictures.

Summer Wedding in Grass Valley

Pin It This past weekend we were so excited to see our cousin Frankie (or Frank Charles to some) celebrate his wedding to his new bride Ashley. I have known Frankie since he was about 11 or 12 as he is actually my hubbys cousin...having seen him grow up has been really fun and I love him like a brother.

The wedding was at a place in Grass Valley called Squirrel Creek Ranch. I have heard of this wedding venue before it being about 40 minutes from my home here in Roseville. I was really happy to finally get the chance to make the drive over and celebrate with family. Recently, our gatherings have not been so wonderful with both of my hubbys grandparents joining in heaven last year after over 60 years of marriage. The venue was very beautiful: a tin barn with open gaps, a cabin for bride and groom suite, and a large picnic area near a creek. We were a little hot it being 95 degrees that day and it was fun running from picnic table to picnic table with the sun chasing our backs. But having grass under toe and trees above makes you feel cooler and we were grateful we weren't in Roseville where it was even warmer.

The best part of weddings as you know - FAMILY. My husband comes from a larger family than I do so to see cousins we hadnt seen in a while is always so much fun for me, being the more social part of the half.

With cousins only, it was great to share stories of the new generation of kids coming up. We are so excited to possibly have a Cousins Christmas this year. We have been wanting to this since the last gathering - hopefully, this is will be Year 1!

I hope your summer is going well.  This summer has been so jam packed.  We have had wonderful chances to visit friends in Santa Cruz (next posting), tomorrow we leave to see more friends in Rainbow, had several road trips for some good junk with my friend Katy (follow my business FB - The Olive and Rose for the "daily" run downs), and a ton of time with the my Tori preparing for college, driving lessons, and job searches, and lots and lots of time planning the upcoming shows.  In a nut shell - awesome!!!

Have a fantastic rest of it!  Here's to seeing the rest of summer move like molasses!

Our Spring Wisteria Tree

This spring seemed to approach so quickly. I am not one who wishes one season away with the hopes of another so I was really surprised when Spring officially sprung upon me a couple of weeks ago.

Around here, spring is usually evident by the blooms around the house. At my home, the strongest evidence is our wisteria tree. When we moved into our home 10 years ago, we inherited this tree. Our house was built in 1942 though I am not sure when the wisteria was originally planted. What I do know is that at some point, Mr. Morales (the original home builder and seller of the home) had to create a post and hoop to support the blooms.

I love its effect. And the tree blooms several times per year. My daughter Faith, from The Dainty Adventures, took these shots last week. I hope your spring is blooming well so far! Best, Sandy

Happy Belated Bday Eva!

Miss Gabor would have celebrated her birthday on February 11th

I will always remember Eva Gabor as the witty and glamourous Lisa Douglas, wife of Oliver, on Green Acres. Before there the Real Housewives of Pick-A-City, "Lisa" had no problem digging and living the dream on their farm - always dressed her best, classy to the strangers that came to her door, and helping her mate who shared overwhelming enthusiasm and passion for their lives in the country! I loved how she dug in always looking so pulled together - those of us who are junkers know its not possible to keep mud off of your boots, or dirt from your finger nails - but there is nothing like a rhinestone brooch or flip of the collar that makes you feel extra-pretty in the process!

I hope you think of "Lisa" when you are off on your next junking journey!

Its hard to believe that show season is just around the corner. With the trees down (mine came down yesterday in fact - Jan 19th!!) and fresh corners in the house and new calendars on the fridge, I just wanted to share our 

Show Dates with you for Mes Amis 2013: 

April 20 (Spring) and September 21 (Fall)

 from 8am - 3pm (*new closing time*)

Christmas Tree Farm Day

This year, our family decided on a real Christmas tree. For years, we have had artificial trees including our aluminum tree.  None of us could remember the reason why we had artificial trees for so long though I suspect it was a pet issue that had developed over time. With our beloved marking pet having passed away and inspiration from our visit to our Noel Holiday Market vendor, Harris Tree Farm, we decided to take a trip up to Pollock Pines, with Grandpa, and pick up on an old tradition.

 

With 7 generations of experience, the family makes the process pretty simple: figure out the type of tree you want (160 acres of forest), grab a saw and 6' stick for measuring, and walk the forest.  Trees are sold by the foot.

 Had to cry when Faith mentioned that Tori may be away at college this time next year.  Can't believe how fast time flies.

With the tree found, it was time for Mark to cut.

After a day or two, our family Christmas Tree 2012 was done.  I really loved working with fresh greenery this year.  Look for my next post and the rest of the house trimmed in Holiday.

Holiday Shadow Box Workshop

Pin It We had a great time this afternoon at our Holiday Shadow Box Workshop. Tina Haller, from My Favorite Things, was our teacher here in my home in Roseville. She was fantastic!!!

She is pretty well versed in all things creative having so many workshops out of her store in Nevada City, My Favorite Things. She will be doing workshops here in Roseville throughout the seasons...this was our first.  Of the options we had to choose from for this session, we all chose to make clay shadow boxes with personalized touches, perfect for gift giving season.

Some of us also brought bottles and learned a technique decorating bottles. Each of us brought our own things to embellish our boxes and bottles - jewels, trims, pictures - Kathleen even brought some faux snow!

Throughout the teaching, we had food prepared by my husband Mark - sugar cookies, a nice salad, and potato pizza.  For desert, we had cranberry pie!

 Here are a few pictures of the finished products.  One of the best things about having these workshops, is that you take the time to do the projects with friends.  Plus, Tina and the other students have such fantastic ideas that we all learn from each other during the process.  With glue guns, paints, scissors, ribbon and loads of embellishments from Tina to choose from, its easy to be creative and share in the experience with others.  

 

We decided that our next workshop will be Saturday, February 2nd from 11-4 here in Roseville again.

Tina will be developing the sample of what we will be creating but it will be just in time for Valentines Day - save the date!
